Assured Fire Consulting was founded in 2009 by Colin Smyth who is a graduate of The Institute of Fire Engineers.

Colin has 27 years experience in Fire Safety with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and with Assured Fire Consulting. Colin was trained by the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service at the Fire Services College (Morton on Marsh, England) and at the Fire Service Training centre in Belfast. Colin studied Fire Risk Assessment under Colin Todd and has a Fire Risk Assessment Certificate having completed the course approved by the Institute of Fire Engineers and as delivered by C.S. Todd & Associates.

Colin served as Assistant District Commander, Fire Safety and Health & Safety in the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and has experienced all types of Fire Safety situations.

Colin has:-

1. advised the Regulatory Authority's Building Control Submission's Officer on Means of escape from all types of premises.
2. advised the District Councils' Public Entertainment Licensing Officers on the entertainment industry's inherent Fire Precautions and occupancy numbers.
3. carried out Workplace Fire Safety inspections.
4. advised Industry on Fire Safety 'best practice' in the workplace.
5. assessed 'Fire Engineering' solutions for the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.
6. carried out Fire Risk Assessments on Retail & Commercial premises including the Fire & Rescue Service's buildings.
7. trained Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Services fire-fighting personnel on all aspects of Community Fire Safety.
8. carried out Fire Safety in the Workplace training courses for Retail & Commercial premises including the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.
9. been trained in (PACE) Police and Criminal Evidence becoming a Fire Safety Enforcement Officer for the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.
10. represented the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service in court proceedings.
11. been NEBOSH trained and has trained and carried out Health & Safety inspections on Retail & Commercial premises including Northern Ireland Fire &Rescue Service Fire stations.
12. maintained Health & Safety protocols in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Fire Stations.

The New Fire Safety (Northern Ireland) Regs 2010 will replace the existing Fire Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1984.
